Likely Google Play can be installed on any device, with some Googling and effort. However, Google Play is required to remove the ads.

The APK can be used to run the app on devices without Google Play, such as Amazon Fire devices. Devices with different Google accounts for Google Play will need to each purchase the app to remove ads. If multiple devices use the same Google account for Google Play, then the app will have ads removed on those devices with just one in-app purchase. Google Play is used for ad removal on Android, which is tied to a Google account. Gloomhaven Helper can be installed from Google Play or by downloading the APK: The app is no longer available, sorry. Ads are annoying but at least this setup allows the choice to use it without paying and those who really don't like the ads or who would like to contribute to the app's development can do so.

Desktop and web remained free, but I charged for iOS and to remove ads on Android. After adding 2 expansions, 12 languages, and supporting over 150,000 users, I felt it was reasonable to be compensated to continue the effort.

I built it for fun and gave it away for free for more than a year. I didn't worry about it since I didn't intend to sell the app. When I built the app I used assets that Isaac Childres, the Gloomhaven author, provided without licensing terms. These are the facts about what happened, not judgments. I feel that I owe it to my users to explain why the app is now gone. Users who previously purchased the app may continue to use it. The app has been removed from the Apple and Google app stores. All distribution of the app is now prohibited, including any modified versions of the app. Gloomhaven Helper is no longer available.
